Effective March 1, 2007. This standard is in response to a recommendation from the Chief Coroner of Ontario

  • Children 6 years of age and under
  • Children 6 and under must ALWAYS be accompanied in the water by an adult of at least 15 years of age in the pool within arms reach.
  • Children 7 to 10 years of age
  • Children 7 to 10 years of age must complete the FACILITY SWIM STANDARD.

Wristband System

Upon arrival at the pool, children 7-10 years of age will be issued a YELLOW wristband at the front desk and will be told about the swim admission — swim across the shallow end of the pool (18 m) without touching the bottom of the pool.

If they successfully complete the swim, they will be issued a GREEN wristband by the lifeguard. The GREEN wristband indicates to all other lifeguards that the child has successfully completed the swim admission requirement and is able to swim in any section of the pool. Parents/caregivers with children in this age group are encouraged to swim with their children regardless of the child’s swimming ability.

If they do not successfully complete the swim, they will be issued a RED wristband by the lifeguard and asked to remain with their caregiver (15 years of age within arms reach) while in the pool.

Help keep our pool clean and germ free!

  • All swimmers are asked to shower with soap and water before entering the pool.  This will help reduce the combined chlorine's created from body oils and lotions that eventually dissipate into the air, which may lead to poor air quality.  Public Pools Regulation "15. Every bather shall take a cleansing shower or bath using soap and warm water before entering the deck. R.R.O.1990, Reg. 565, s.15"
  • Take your child to the bathroom before entering the pool.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water after using the washroom or changing diapers.
  • Refrain from spitting in the pool.
  • Stay home if you are feeling sick or nauseated and/or have had diarrhea in the past 48 hours.
  • Feed your children at least one hour before swimming.
  • Customers with medical conditions that may result in loss of bladder or bowels are required to wear protective undergarments to prevent the spread of illness or disease.
  • Children not toilet-trained must wear swim pants made for swimming.  Regular diapers are not permitted.
