Driveway Permit 

The City of Brantford requires that a permit for new entrances and driveway alterations be obtained prior to any construction. Information on the permit process can be found on the City's website. Permit applications can be made in person at City Hall or through email.

When do I need a Driveway Permit?

Any company, contractor, agency, or individuals who wish to work within the public right-of-way to construct, alter or extend a driveway approach are required to obtain a Driveway Permit.

What is the cost for a Driveway Permit?

In accordance with the 2017 Fees & Charges By-law (Driveway Fee Schedule), the cost is:

  • New residential driveway - per permit $27.83
  • Extension or additional residential driveway - per permit $27.83
  • Commercial driveway - per permit $27.83

Once the permit has been approved, the City of Brantford shall invoice the Permittee on a monthly basis in accordance with the fee schedule.

What is the procedure for obtaining a Driveway Permit?

Application for a Driveway Permit must be made at least 2 business days prior to commencement of work.

A sketch or plan must be supplied showing all information relating to location, purpose and measurements.

Provision of a Certificate of Insurance with proof of Commercial General Liability Insurance (minimum amount of $2m per occurrence) with “The corporation of the City of Brantford” included as an Additional Insured on the policy.

Provision of a security deposit in the minimum amount of $2,000 in the form of a cash deposit, certified cheque or bond.
