Brantford's current Official Plan is a statement of goals, objectives and policies intended to guide future land use, physical development, growth and change within the city limits. The policies of the Plan are designed to maintain a good quality of life for the citizens of Brantford, to reduce uncertainty concerning future development, and to provide a basis for land use controls. The Official Plan provides the basis for the zoning bylaw applying to your property.
The existing Official Plan evolves with the city, and is occasionally altered and updated. Sometimes it is necessary to amend the Plan to provide appropriate policy or land use designation for development that wasn't anticipated when the Plan was prepared. Please contact the Planning Department for inquiries and interpretation of the Official Plan.
The City is currently in the process of an Official Plan Review to update the existing document for the future. Please see the Our City 2041 Official Plan Review webpage for details about the new Draft Official Plan.
Printed copies of the Official Plan are available from the Planning Department for $40; an update service is also available.
The current Official Plan was last consolidated February 5, 2016.
