Make Every Day a Mandela Day
Nelson Mandela International Day of Caring began as a way to honour Nelson Mandela’s 67 years of public service on his birthdate, July 18th by devoting 67 minutes to helping others. Since its inception in 2009, the day has evolved into a movement where individuals are encouraged to “Make Every Day a Mandela Day” by contributing positively to their community. As Mandela aptly said,
“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead” – Nelson Mandela
The Brantford Nelson Mandela Day Task Force was established in 2014 with the mandate to inspire and empower people in our community to honour Nelson Mandela’s legacy through acts of volunteerism. We were excited to launch this year’s campaign in concert with National Volunteer Week, April 10-16, 2016. In the spirit of volunteerism we encourage you to devote 67 minutes of your time to making a difference in your community and make every day a Mandela day.
The volunteer service you perform is optional – for example, volunteering in a hospital, tutoring a child, providing food for the homeless, assembling care baskets for cancer patients or any other community service you feel passionate about.
