The major objective of the Public Works Commission is the implementation of Council policies, procedures and directives assoicated with the management of infrastructure in the most effective, efficient and economical manner possible.
This requires that the General Manager of Public Works:
- plan and prepare budgets
- maintain infrastructure in a cost efficient manner
- evaluate concerns from the public and take corrective action
The Public Works Commission adheres to policies established by the Council of the City of Brantford and deals with matters concerning asset management, capital planning, road construction, road maintenance, bridges, sidewalks, street lighting, storm sewers and sanitary connections, pumping stations, traffic and parking, transit, maintenance of City-owned buildings, garbage and recycling collection, fleet as well as environmental issues and drainage problems.
The Commission also operates and maintains the landfill site, the water treatment plant and the wastewater treatment plant, the Farmers' Market and the Brantford Airport.
