Profile Mayor Hancock's Biography Personal:
Mike and his wife, Mary Catherine, have lived at 31 Winding Way in Brantford since 1981. They have two children Michelle and Matthew. Michelle and her husband, Kent Mascotto, live in London and have children, Samantha (11) and Thomas (7). Matthew and his wife Shannon Steffler live in Guelph and have a son, Colin (4) and a daughter Rebecca Elizabeth (1).
Business Experience:
Mike started his business career at Dun & Bradstreet of Canada from 1964 to 1971 as an award winning Business Analyst, Ontario Service Manager and the London Branch Sales Manager.
Mike was a senior executive with Human Resources Development Canada in a progressive career from 1971 until taking early retirement in January 1998.
In 1996 as a member of City Council, Mike was involved in the formation of the Brant Skills Development Group and from September 1998 until January of 2003 he became their Executive Director working with the group to promote skill training to high school students and young people in Brant County.
Education:
Born and educated in Toronto, Mike studied at York University, and holds a certificate in Credit and Financial Analysis from Dun & Bradstreet.

Mike was first elected as Alderman/Councillor in 1988 and re-elected four times until being elected Mayor in 2003. Mike’s focus as Mayor has been the renaissance of our downtown, the growth of post-secondary education, economic development, and Brownfield reclamation while keeping property taxes as low as possible.
Over the years, Mike has been a member of almost every committee of Council, from the Economic Development Board, Police Services, Brant County Board of Health, City County Liaison, and the Emergency Operations Advisory Group.

My Goals:
Using a participative approach to develop consensus, I will continue to strive to make everyone in the community and at City Hall feel that they are part of a team working to make Brantford a better place to live, work, play, and raise a family.
