CITY OF BRANTFORD – 2010 MUNICIPAL ELECTION ELECTION OFFICIAL DUTIES

APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED IN-PERSON TO THE CITY CLERK'S OFFICE, CITY HALL, 100 WELLINGTON SQUARE. ALL applicants MUST complete an assessment form to ensure basic skill requirements are met.
DEPUTY RETURNING OFFICER (DRO)
- Must have experience working an election or have the appropriate education/work experience to perform the necessary duties involved.
- Be an organized, patient, and polite person who can deal with electors and other election staff, maintain election supplies and forms in an orderly fashion, and assist in arranging and taking down the voting area (i.e. voting screens, signs, posters, etc.).
- Must have access to a vehicle to transport election material to and from City Hall.
- Assist voters with revision forms as needed
- Become thoroughly familiar with:
- Procedures to administer oaths to voters
- Instruction Booklet, including DRO and Poll Clerk duties
- The use of the Automated Vote Tabulators
- The different types of ballots
- Procedures to add/correct information for qualified electors on the voters’ list
- The function of Proxy Voting and the appropriate form
- Procedures for opening and closing of voting place
POLL CLERK
- Assist DRO as required, such as picking up election material and setting up the voting location for opening and again when closing voting place.
- Become familiar with:
- Instruction Booklet
- The different types of ballots and how to determine the correct ballot for each voter.
- Procedures to add/correct information for qualified electors on the voters’ list
- The function of Proxy Voting and the appropriate form
- Be knowledgeable on the operation of the Automated Vote Tabulators
- Assist voters with revision forms as needed
- Maintain voters’ list throughout the day:
- Locate voters’ names
- Keep track of the numerical order of voting
- Determine the type of ballot each voter should be given
- Add electors’ names to the list as needed
ELECTION ASSISTANT
- Assist DRO/Poll Clerk as required, such as with the set-up, opening, and closing of the poll.
- Greet voters and determine if they are in correct voting location.
- Demonstrate how to properly mark a ballot.
- Ensure voters have proper identification
- Help voters with accessible needs as required (open doors etc.)
- Assist voters with revision forms as needed.
- Direct voters to correct DRO.
- Handle crowd control.
- May be required to remain at the voting place until facility is locked.
All Election Officials MUST attend scheduled instruction sessions. (Successful applicants will be notified of dates)
Wages are all-inclusive (includes training and Election Day).
Other positions will be assigned as required.
