2010 Municipal Election Nominations 

January 4, 2010

Beginning January 4, 2010, nominations will be accepted by the Office of the City Clerk for the following elected offices:

Mayor

  • City Councillor - Wards 1 through 5 (two per ward will be selected)
  • Trustee - Grand Erie District School Board
  • Trustee - Brant Haldimand Catholic School Board
  • Trustee - Conseil Scolaire de District Centre-Sud Ouest
  • Trustee - Conseil Scolaire de District Catholique Centre-Sud

To run for the position of mayor or councillor, you must be:

  • a Canadian citizen
  • at least 18 years of age
  • a resident of the city of Brantford, or the owner or tenant of property in the city of Brantford (or the spouse of an owner or tenant)
  • eligible to vote
  • not disqualified to hold office by any legislation

To run for the position of school board trustee, you must be:

  • a Canadian citizen
  • at least 18 years of age
  • a resident in the school board's area of jurisdiction
  • eligible to vote for the school board
  • not disqualified to hold office by any legislation

Nomination forms are available in the Office of the City Clerk, City Hall, 100 Wellington Street, Brantford, during normal business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.).

The following nomination filing fees apply:

  • $200 for the Office of the Mayor
  • $100 for all other offices

The filing fee must be paid either in cash, by certified cheque or money order made payable to the City of Brantford. A consent to the nomination and a declaration of qualification, both on the prescribed form and signed by the person being nominated, must be filed at the Office of the City Clerk, City Hall, 100 Wellington Street, Brantford. (This must be signed in the presence of a Commissioner of Oaths).

The deadline for filing nominations is Friday, September 10, 2010 at 2:00 p.m.

* NOTE: The number of trustees to be elected in the municipality on the four school boards is subject to the final determination and distribution of trustees in accordance with the Education Act. The number of trustees for each school board is to be determined not later than March 31, 2010.

No person who proposes to be a candidate may accept contributions for the purpose of the election or incur campaign expenses until that person has filed a completed Nomination Paper.
