Best Start Magazine Milestone Edition Available Now!

The Brantford•Brant Best Start Network has released the fourth edition of its popular magazine, complete with more relevant local information and resources to help parents choose the best options for their children.  The magazine, distributed to nearly 20,000 local households, is designed to support families and knit together the child care community.

"It's a significant milestone for the Best Start Network, for parents, and for the community,” said Sue Norden, Director of Child Care Services at the City of Brantford.  “The magazine has blossomed from one issue into a serial publication that parents and caregivers eagerly await.  It’s great to be a part of something so positive.”

The magazine is created with input and contributions from a broad spectrum across the community.  Local child care professionals and organizations submit articles to the magazine.  A steering committee comprised of members of the Best Start Network (including the Boys' & Girls' Club of Brantford, the Brantford Public Library, City of Brantford, and Ontario Early Years Centre: Brant) reviews the articles, edits the magazine and arranges its distribution.

Melodie Spencer, Manager of Ontario Early Years Centre: Brant, said, “It’s a collaborative effort.  We always strive to create the best product possible, and I think the quality of the magazine speaks for itself.”

This issue addresses such topics as the province’s new Full Day Early Learning Program, literacy, and Aboriginal programs, among many others.  It also includes an extensive directory of local child care programs and services available to parents.

Brantford Mayor Mike Hancock recognizes the importance of giving children the best advantage possible.  “Children are our greatest resource, they are our future.  The Best Start Network and this magazine help provide that.”

The fourth edition of the Best Start Magazine was officially launched at the 2010 Best Start Parent Fair on Saturday, April 24 at Branlyn/Notre Dame Triple Gym.  Parents can expect to receive the magazine in the following weeks.  It is distributed to families through local school boards, child care organizations and social services.
