Our City Home to the Happy, According to Study
A measure of the overall happiness of Canadians, conducted by the Canadian Community Health Survey from Statistics Canada, found that our country's residents are, overall, a very happy bunch.
Brantford is particularly cheery - in a survey of the "happiest cities," our city ranked second in the country! This life-satisfaction measure is based on a survey conducted by Statistics Canada through its annual Canadian Community Health Survey, which polls Canadians about overall quality of life and health.
The survey asks those polled to rank happiness on a scale of 1 - 5, and Brantford's overall score came in at a contented 4.36, just .01 of a point behind the happiest Canadian city, Sherbrooke, Quebec.
In 2009, 92.1 per cent of Canadians over the age of 12 were either 'satisfied or 'very satisfied' with their lives, which is par with previous years. In 2008, that percentage was 91.4, and in 2003, Canadians rated their overall happiness at 91.3 per cent, illustrating our history as a smiley bunch indeed.
