Community Pride is Golden in Downtown Brantford 

Do you have a business in downtown Brantford? Are you up to the challenge of making downtown an inviting and attractive destination? The new Golden Broom Awards program is just the ticket to get you motivated to help clean up our downtown.

The Downtown Brantford Business Improvement Area’s (BIA) newest program, the Golden Broom Awards, is geared towards developing a new culture that “shines not whines” about the state of our city’s downtown.

Designed to acknowledge those who set an example of pride in conducting business in downtown Brantford, this new awards program looks to the community-at-large to help nominate, recognize and celebrate those businesses who demonstrate how they are working hard to make our downtown shine.

So … how does this work? The program is simple; use the following criteria used as the basis for nominations, fill out a form, and submit it either in person or online.

Golden Broom Award Criteria

The Overall Business Appearance:

  • Clean and litter-free establishment
  • Graffiti free
  • Signage quality
  • Window displays
  • Landscaping and flowers (if applicable)
  • Manaes waste responsibly
  • Improvements:
  • Façade improvements (including those supported by the Façades Grant Program)
  • Signage
  • Historic preservation
  • Public space improvements

Nomination brochures are available in participating downtown businesses, or can be completed on the BIA’s website at www.downtownbrantford.ca.

From June through to October 2009, a monthly winner will receive a plaque of recognition and announced in the Expositor. The first award will be announced at the start of Movies in the Square in Harmony Square, Brantford, on Thursday, July 16, 2009.

The overall winner for the year (2009) will be announced at the Shining Stars Tourism Awards in April 2010, with the recipient receiving a plaque and the $200 prize.

The focus of this program is to not only “pretty up” our downtown, but to engage community partners and business owners to share the pride that the BIA has in Brantford’s downtown.

Downtown businesses are encouraged to pitch in and help create a notable urban experience for all those who like to shop, dine and explore our city’s core!
