Family Day Fun for All Ages
Take the panic out of planning this Family Day weekend - it's simple! Grab your day timer and a pen and start mapping out a kid-centric weekend that the whole family will enjoy. This run-down of local activities will give you plenty of options to choose from!
Take part in the Family Day FUN Raiser Car Rally, open to all ages and is only $25 a vehicle. Test your sleuthing skills to solve puzzles, complete challenges and find your destinations. Meet at the Grand Valley Christian Centre, just off Powerline Rd. A staggered start will begin at 12:00 p.m., and skating and hot chocolate will warm you right back up afterwards. The Frosty Fest Winter Carnival takes place from Feb. 13th-15th in Harmony Square. Enjoy free skating throughout the weekend from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and get out to experience all the carnival events! From horse drawn trolley rides, an old time carousel, zoo animals, ice carving, and pony rides, your kids will be entertained and amazed at a winter wonderland - right in their own downtown! Indulge in a hot apple cider and winter treats while your children have a blast in Harmony Square. Activities are set to run Feb. 13th from 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., and Feb. 14th-15th, from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Why not visit the Bell Homestead National Historic Site? For a mere $1.00 admission fee, you can show your children a piece of Brantford's history, and a peek into a world long since past but not forgotten.
Families with children under seven years of age are invited to join Jane Flinders from Musical Motion at T. B. Costain /SC Johnson Community Centres for music, games and crafts from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Cost is $2.00 per family. Call 519-756-1500 for more information.
There’s a lot to do at Myrtleville House Museum. From 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. learn about the Good Family who immigrated from Ireland to Brant County in 1836. Bake a special Irish treat with the maid in the kitchen, play with old fashion toys, take a tour of the museum and watch a wooden toy demonstration. Children will also have a chance to make their own ship using recyclable materials.
Pinehurst Lake Conservation Area is open for hiking and ice fishing from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Admission is $4.50/adult; $2.50/children aged 6-14; and children 5 and under are free. If you’ve never ice fished before, Feb. 13th-15th is the time to do it. It’s officially the first ever Ontario Family Winter Fishing weekend and you don’t even need a license for the catch and release event!
With these activities and so many more to choose from, it'll be hard to find a dull moment this Family Day weekend!
