Find Your Spirit 2010

Don’t miss the Find Your Spirit Festival taking place at Harmony Square this weekend, Friday, August 20 and Saturday, August 21. Community groups, performers and exciting vendors have come together to provide an inspiring weekend of creative and artistic expression, and help attendees discover the artists inside themselves.

The festival is perfect for families and people of all ages – find one-of-a-kind artwork; participate in interactive sessions; take in a stage production, live music, poetry and dance; and interact with amazing installation artists at work.

Festival highlights include:

  • Mini photographic workshops by Henry’s Cameras.
  • Poetry for the Fridge word art craft by The Expositor.
  • Deafblindness simulation by Canadian DeafBlind Artisans Ontario Chapter.
  • Interactive drama sessions by ICHTHYS Theatre.
  • Open skate with The Belle City Roller Girls.

On the main stage on Friday, Karl and the Cherry Bomb Peppers play their diverse repertoire at 6 p.m., followed by Hey Brother at 7:30 p.m. and Cruiseship at 9 p.m. On Saturday, a number of performers, poets, musicians and presenters hit the main stage including The Brantford Symphony Orchestra, poet Ella Pankatz, slam poet Barb Day, and melodic hard rockers Rough Justice. On the second stage, the Academy of Dance presents Happily Ever After, written, directed and choreographed by Eric Oleskiw, an award-winning choreographer, actor, singer and dancer. Children’s band Bunny Huggers joins the festival again for two performances and at 8:30 p.m. Thee Pugs end off the festival with their retro groove.

Not totally sold yet?  Numerous vendors will also be in there, tempting you to get your shop on - with unique wares such as crafts, artwork, jewelry and homemade beauty products, it'll be hard to go home empty handed.

The Find Your Spirit Festival was created to encourage a broader appreciation and understanding of the arts and their importance in local communities. It offers audiences activities that provide a wider understanding of the creative process and gives the opportunity to engage in cultural activities in new ways, while spreading a greater awareness of local cultural resources.
