Guitar Hero Competition Venue Change

Due to impending inclement weather, it is with great regret that Lori-Dawn Cavin from Brantford Parks & Recreation (representing Harmony Square) and the Personal Computer Museum curator Syd Bolton are announcing that their GUITAR HERO ROCKS THE SQUARE competition is being moved indoors for safety reasons.

August 29, 2009

“With our big screen and all the electronics necessary to run the event, we just can’t risk any potential safety issues that might arise from holding an event like this outdoors,” Lori-Dawn Cavin from Parks and Recreation, Brantford, said. “We deeply regret moving this event out of downtown but the weather is just not cooperating.”

The event which takes place Friday, August 28th and Saturday August 29th will now be held at the Woodman Park Community Centre located at 491 Grey Street in Brantford. The event begins both evenings at 7pm and will be started with a live band.

“This is basically a free concert with the thrill of competition,” says Syd Bolton. “I’m disappointed with the venue change but I know that will not change the spirit or thrill of the event.”

The competition will take place on a huge 28 foot by 20 foot inflatable screen, with another screen for results and information. In addition to all of those who qualified on August 22nd at the Personal Computer Museum, the event will feature a “VIP” contest and even a “BEST DRESSED BAND” competition. Interested “bands” can apply at the event website, www.guitarherocompetition.ca. NO fees are required, just a submission of intent. Various prizes will be available in addition to the $1000 top cash prizes (and $200 cash for each winner in the four age categories, 6-12, 13-18, 19-34 and 35+).

This event is a collaboration between the Personal Computer Museum and the City's Parks & Recreation department. The Personal Computer Museum was founded in September 2005 by Syd Bolton. The museum has been recognized internationally for its website and computer recycling efforts and is run by a group of 30 volunteers.
