Heritage Day Workshop Kicks off Heritage Week Events

February 20 - 26 is Heritage Week in Ontario, and Brantford and area museums and galleries will be celebrating in many ways.

On February 17 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., the City of Brantford, County of Brant, Grand River Conservation Authority and the Grand Strategy Heritage Working Group will host the 2012 Heritage Day Workshop at South Dumfries Community Centre & Arena in St. George, Ontario. The workshop will focus on the War of 1812-14 using the theme "Crossroads of Conflict, Pathways to Peace: Divided Loyalties," as part of a series of bicentennial commemorations. To learn more visit the Grand River Conservation Authority web site.

"It’s a great way to launch Heritage Week and bring attention to the War of 1812 commemoration activities," says Brantford Arts & Culture Coordinator, Nicole Drake, adding that there are many other events taking place in and around that time.

On February 18 the Personal Computer Museum will hold their annual Open House, and February 20 will see the Bell Homestead NHS offer $1.00 admission for Loonie Family Day. The Paris Museum & Historical Society celebrates the Grand Opening of their new location at the Syl Apps Community Centre in downtown Paris on February 26, and to wrap up the week, there will be a special event to celebrate "Addie's Birthday" at the Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead NHS on February 27.

Other ongoing exhibitions not to be missed include "40 Years of the Centre" - a very special exhibit at Woodland Cultural Centre on until March 16 - and the Brant Museum & Archives Dairy Exhibit that runs until the end of February.
