The City of Brantford and the Brantford Minor Hockey Association have won the bid to host the 2015 and 2016 ALLIANCE Hockey Select Championships. The players will range in age from seven to 17 and each tournament will have an estimated 76 participating teams. Brantford can expect to host over 1,368 athletes and about 2,100 guests to the area over the three days of the tournament each year. According to the Brantford Minor Hockey Association, approximately 30 per cent of these visitors will stay in the community overnight.

“Brantford benefits greatly from the economic impact of visitation and overnight visits associated with tournaments,” says Donna Clements, Tourism Business Development Officer, City of Brantford. “We have players and their parents in town, eating at our restaurants, shopping in our stores and staying at our hotels.”

The Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre and the Brant Sports Complex are ideally suited to host the Championships which will take place April 10 to 12, 2015 and April 8 to 10, 2016.

Planning began in March 2013, when Tourism Division staff worked in cooperation with the Brantford Minor Hockey Association to submit a bid to host both the 2015 and 2016 ALLIANCE Hockey Select Championships. The Brantford Minor Hockey Association has experience hosting major tournaments, including the annual Wayne Gretzky International Hockey Tournament every December.

Tourism Brantford will be working closely with the Brantford Minor Hockey Association over the next two years to ensure a successful hosting experience for the ALLIANCE Hockey Select Championships. More information will be available leading up to the tournament.
