BRANTFORD – Today Mayor Chris Friel joined Ward 5 Councillors Dave Neumann & Brian Van Tilborg, as well as President Elect of the Kiwanis Club of Brantford Dave Lewis and members of the Grand Erie District School Board to officially the naming of Kiwanis Way (formerly known as Brett St.) The City installed the new signage at 7:30 am this morning ahead of the official announcement, fittingly held at Pauline Johnson Collegiate, adjacent to the new Kiwanis Field. Additional street name signage was also installed at the intersection of Colborne Street at Puleston Street / Kiwanis Way to assist residents and visitors in locating Kiwanis Way.

Council approved the name change in February 2016 in recognition of the Kiwanis Club’s tremendous contribution to the development of Kiwanis Field, a new state of the art Turf Field at Pauline Johnson Collegiate & Vocational School expected to officially open in late June/early July.

Featuring both synthetic turf and an 8 lane rubberized track as well as permanent bleacher seating, a central press box, electronic scoreboard and light standards for night time use, the Kiwanis Field will accommodate a variety of sports including football, soccer, track and field, rugby and field lacrosse. The new Field will also be suitable to play host to a number of prestigious events including Special Olympics and Para Sports.

Construction of the field is the result of the extraordinary work done by the Kiwanis Field Committee, the Brantford Artificial Turf Fields Committee, the City of Brantford Parks and Recreation staff and the Grand Erie District School Board staff. Additionally, informational open houses and events were held to gather valuable input from community groups such as the Brantford Accessibility Advisory Committee.
