City to host series of events to celebrate National Seniors Day

BRANTFORD – The City of Brantford is proud to pay tribute to the seniors who have helped build our country and continue to make valuable contributions to our community.

Consistent with the City’s Master Aging Plan that focuses on key priorities including transportation, housing and education awareness, we are pleased to celebrate National Seniors Day on Saturday October 1st by offering a series of events as follows:

Friday, September 30 – Workshop on a Bus

Hosted by the Grand River Council on Aging, the tour will depart at 9:15 am from the Brantford Bus Terminal (64 Darling St.) OR the Airport Community Hall (3 Airport Rd). The FREE tour includes visits to the Brantford Public Library, the Beckett Adult Leisure Centre, the Grand River Community Health Centre and the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre as well as a FREE luncheon.

Friday, September 30 – Beckett Adult Leisure Centre

FREE drop in programs all day long including fitness at 9 am, Woodcarving at 10 am, Bridge at 12:15 pm and Euchre at 1 pm. The celebration will feature free draws, free cake and coffee, and for those who would like a tour at 10 am are encouraged to register in advance by calling 519-756-3261.

Saturday, October 1 – Sanderson Centre

The Grand River Council on Aging invites you to a musical matinee by “The George Rose Band Dancers” at the Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts (88 Dalhousie St.) from 2 – 4:30 pm. Door Prizes including $500 cash. Tickets $35 at the Box Office.

Saturday, October 1 – FREE Transit

In honour of City Council’s proclamation declaring Saturday, October 1 National Seniors Day in the City of Brantford, bus fares will be waived for seniors the entire day of Saturday, October 1, 2016.

“The City of Brantford is proud to pay tribute to seniors on this day, and thank them for the valuable contributions they have made, and continue to make, in our families, workplaces, and community,” said Mayor Chris Friel. "National Seniors Day is an occasion for people in Brantford and across Canada to join together as a nation to honour and celebrate this country’s seniors."
