May construction activity in Brantford remains strong

BRANTFORD, ON – Today, the City released its May 2018 Report on Construction Activity demonstrating a construction value of $19.418 million for permits issued. The largest increase for May 2018 over last year at this time occurred in the Institutional and Government Sector of construction. A total of five building permits were issued with a construction value of $12.565 million, compared to April 2017, when there were no building permits issued in this sector of construction.

The largest permit was issued to the City of Brantford for the construction of a new, elevated water storage tank located at 346 Shellard Lane, which had a construction value of $8.360 million. A sizeable permit was also issued to the Brantford Christian School for an addition to the school located at 7 Calvin Street, which had a construction value of $3.5 million.

Other noteworthy building permits issued in May include a permit to construct alterations within the ‘E wing’ of the Brantford General Hospital, which had a construction value of $0.6 million, and a permit to complete interior alterations to create a fitness club within a commercial building located at 565 West Street, which had a construction value of $0.34 million.

To date this year, 367 building permits have been issued with a total construction value of $51.530 million.
