Precaution Urged During Heat Warning

BRANTFORD, ON – The public is urged to take precautions as temperatures are expected to rise again this weekend. The Medical Officer of Health for the Brant County Health Unit has issued a heat warning, effective August 3, 2018. A heat warning is issued when Environment and Climate Change Canada forecasts a maximum daily temperature higher than 31 degrees Celsius during the day and a minimum temperature of 21 degrees Celsius during the evening, or a humidex higher than 40 degrees Celsius. The alert will remain in effect until a cancellation notice is issued.

Symptoms of heat-related illness may include: extreme thirst and decreased urination with unusually dark yellow urine, dizziness or fainting, rapid breathing, vomiting, and rapid heartbeat.

Please note the following swimming pools and splash pad locations will be accessible to the public over the weekend:

Woodman Park Pool (491 Grey Street)

  • Friday 1:30-7:00 pm (extended hours today)
  • Sat & Sun 1:30-6:00 pm

Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre (254 North Park Street)

  • Toonie Swim Friday: Family Swim 3:30-4:30 pm and Public Swim 7:00- 8:30 pm
  • Saturday & Sunday: Family Swim 12:30-2:00 pm and Public Swim 2-4 pm

  • Bridle Path Park (55 Palomino Drive) open 10:00 am-dusk
  • Harmony Square (89 Dalhousie St.) open 10:00 am-dusk
