Brantford City Council has proclaimed the week of May 6 to 12, 2012, North American Occupational Safety & Health Week. The goal of identifying a week is to focus employers, employees, partners and the public on the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace, at home and in the community.
Proclamation – North American Occupational Safety & Health Week – May 6-12, 2012
WHEREAS it is desirable that employers, workers and the community at large be made aware of the need to undertake basic organizational and attitudinal changes in the workplace to reduce the incidence of occupational injuries and illnesses; and
WHEREAS the goal of NAOSH Week is to focus the attention of all stakeholders on this important topic and encourage them to equip themselves with tools, information and knowledge to infuse each other with positive attitudes and behaviours that will convey commitment to a healthy and safe workplace, home and community; and
WHEREAS NAOSH Week will consist of activities and events that will promote the vision of NAOSH of “Health & Safety – A Commitment for Life”; and
WHEREAS the City’s Senior Management Team, through the Corporate Health & Safety Team and its Joint Health & Safety Committees encourages employees to take time out from their normal activities to participate in activities and events that promote the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace, at home and in the community;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the Corporation of the City of Brantford does hereby proclaim May 6 – 12, 2012 as “North American Occupational Safety and Health Week” in the City of Brantford and encourages its employees, residents and businesses to hold and participate in activities and events that promote a safe and healthy workplace, home and community.
