The City of Brantford has finalized the 2016 budget process timetable to include several opportunities for public involvement. Meetings of the Estimates Committee to consider the City of Brantford’s 2016 Operating and Capital Budgets will kick off with a Public Budget Open House on Tuesday December 8 from 3-4:30 pm in the Foyer of City Hall where residents will have an opportunity to interact with staff, provide feedback and ask questions about how the City’s Budget works.

In addition to encouraging public attendance throughout the 2016 Budget Process, Council invites submissions by residents and special interest groups who wish to appear as a Delegation to provide input into the process at the Thursday, December 10 meeting. To participate, a Delegation Request Form must be submitted by 9:00 am on Thursday, December 10, 2015. The form is available on the City’s website at or can be picked up in the City Clerk’s Department, Brantford City Hall during regular business hours.

In response to a number of public requests to provide input into current discussions regarding Arrowdale Golf Course and Early Haig Family Fun Park, the City will dedicate two evenings to public consultations in January 2016. Discussion regarding these facilities will not be considered as part of the 2016 Budget deliberation process. Details regarding how the public can be part of this discussion in January will be communicated following the 2016 Budget Process meetings.

The City encourages all citizens and organizations to come forward during the Estimates process to identify and speak to community needs though specific requests for municipal funding will not be considered by the Estimates Committee at this time. Requests for funding must be processed through the Brant County Community Foundation. For more information the community members are encouraged to visit

The Estimates Committee will consider proposed operating and capital project budgets for all departments. The documents to be considered are available on the City’s website on and under the City Finances & Budget section as well as in hard copy for public viewing in the Office of the City Clerk, Brantford City Hall and the main branch of the Brantford Public Library during regular business hours:

2016 Budget Highlights

  • The proposed budgets meet the 1% increase mandated by Council.
  • Additional service delivery efficiencies have been identified to help offset increases.
  • The establishment of the Budget Task Force in 2015 was effective in facilitating a more efficient and inclusive budget planning process. The Task Force met five times between April and November 2015 during which future budget reduction options and strategies were explored with staff to streamline future budget processes.
  • The Capital Budget establishes a renewed focus on funding the City’s capital infrastructure deficit.
  • Council recently approved a new Tax Ratio Reduction Policy that provides a commitment to reduce business class taxes consequently encouraging growth in the non-residential sector, the outcome of which provides long term benefits to all taxpayers.
