Public Encouraged to Attend 2017 Municipal Budget Meetings

The City of Brantford has finalized the 2017 budget process timetable to include several opportunities for public involvement. Meetings of the Estimates Committee to consider the City of Brantford’s 2017 Operating and Capital Budgets will kick off on Monday December 5th at 6 pm with presentations by the City’s Acting CAO, General Managers and Local Boards at City Hall, followed the next evening by a Public Budget Open House on Wednesday December 7th from 4:30-5:30 pm in the Foyer of City Hall where residents will have an opportunity to interact with staff, provide feedback and ask questions about how the City’s Budget works. Light refreshments will be served.

Consistent with the City’s mandate to engage the public in the budget process, this year the City encouraged the community to participate in an online 2017 Budget Priorities public survey between November 1 and November 22, 2016. Nearly 1,000 residents completed the survey, the findings of which will be shared with the Estimates Committee on December 7th, 2016 to help inform the 2017 Budget Process.

In addition to encouraging public attendance throughout the 2017 Budget Process, Council invites submissions by residents and special interest groups who wish to appear as a Delegation to provide input into the process at the Wednesday, December 7th meeting. To participate, a Delegation Request Form must be submitted by 9:00 am on Wednesday, December 7th, 2016. The form is available on the City’s website at www.brantford.ca/delegation or can be picked up in the City Clerk’s Department, Brantford City Hall during regular business hours.

The City encourages all citizens and organizations to come forward during the Estimates process to identify and speak to community needs though specific requests for municipal funding will not be considered by the Estimates Committee at this time. Requests for funding must be processed through the Brant County Community Foundation. For more information the community members are encouraged to visit http://brantcommunityfoundation.ca

The Estimates Committee will consider proposed operating and capital project budgets for all departments. The documents to be considered are available on the City’s website in the City Finances & Budget section as well as in hard copy for public viewing in the Office of the City Clerk, Brantford City Hall and the main branch of the Brantford Public Library during regular business hours:
