Public Encouraged to Participate in 2017 Municipal Budget Planning Meetings

In a concerted effort to engage public participation earlier in the budget planning process, the City of Brantford has finalized a series of Ward meeting dates where residents will have an opportunity to interact with their Ward Councillors and city staff, as well as provide feedback regarding key initiatives and ask questions about how the City’s Budget works.

Following is the 2017 Budget Planning Public Consultation Meeting schedule:

WARD 1

Wednesday, April 13, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Community Room (Room 160), Ryerson Heights School

WARD 2
Thursday, April 14, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Gymnasium, James Hillier School

WARD 3
Monday, April 25, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre, Pool Lobby Room

WARD 4
Monday, April 18, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Community Room, Woodman Community Centre

WARD 5
Wednesday, April 27, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Auditorium, Brantford Civic Centre

The City encourages all citizens and organizations to participate in the 2017 budget public consultation process to identify and speak to community needs though the public is reminded that specific donation requests for municipal funding must be processed through the Brant Community Foundation. 2016 Budget Highlights

  • The approved budget met the 1% increase for current services mandated by Council. The total budget increase including approval of unmet needs was 1.84%.
  • Additional service delivery efficiencies were identified to help offset increases.
  • The establishment of the Budget Task Force in 2015 was effective in facilitating a more efficient and inclusive budget planning process. The Task Force met five times between April and November 2015 during which future budget reduction options and strategies were explored with staff to streamline future budget processes.
  • The Capital Budget established a renewed focus on funding the City’s capital infrastructure deficit.
  • Council approved a new Tax Ratio Reduction Policy that provides a commitment to reduce business class taxes consequently encouraging growth in the non-residential sector, the outcome of which provides long term benefits to all taxpayers.
