Public Reminded to Take Precaution During Extended Heat Warning

BRANTFORD, ON – Residents are encourage to take precaution as temperatures are expected to soar this Canada Day long weekend. The Medical Officer of Health for the Brant County Health Unit has issued an extended heat warning, effective June 29, 2018. These warnings are issued when Environment and Climate Change Canada forecasts more than two consecutive days with a maximum daily temperature higher than 31 degrees Celsius during the day and a minimum temperature of 21 degrees Celsius during the evening, or a humidex higher than 40 degrees Celsius. The alert will remain in effect until a cancellation notice is issued.

Symptoms of heat-related illness may include: extreme thirst and decreased urination with unusually dark yellow urine, dizziness or fainting, rapid breathing, vomiting, and rapid heartbeat.

The following swimming pools and splash pad locations are available over the weekend as cooling areas during this heat alert:

  • Earl Haig Family Fun Park (101 Market St. S) hours: Friday & Saturday 11am-9pm (pools close at 8pm), Sunday 12-6 (pools close at 6pm) and Monday 11-9 (Pools close at 8 pm)
  • Woodman Park Pool (491 Grey Street) hours: Friday 5-8 pm (extended hours today), Sat & Sun 1:30-6 pm, Monday 1:30-7pm
  • Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre (254 North Park Street) hours: Friday: Family Swim 3:15-4:30 pm & Public Swim Friday 7:30-9:30 pm, Saturday public swim 2-4 pm, Monday 1:30-3:30 pm
  • Splash Pads (locations & hours): Mohawk Park Sprinklemania (51 Lynwood Drive) open 10am-7pm, Harmony Square (89 Dalhousie St.) and Bridle Path Park (55 Palomino Drive) open 10am-dusk
