It’s time to voice your opinion on the future of arts, culture and heritage in Brantford. Residents are invited to participate in the Municipal Cultural Plan Public Open House on June 15 between 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Hosted by the Economic Development and Tourism Department, in partnership with the Brantford Cultural Advisory Committee, the drop-in open house will take place at the Main Branch of the Brantford Public Library at 173 Colborne Street in downtown Brantford.

“Community feedback is very important to us and we are hopeful that residents will provide input into future priorities for arts, culture and heritage,” said Monica Admiral, Chair, Municipal Cultural Plan volunteer working group. “We will also share how the City’s Municipal Cultural Plan is put into action.”

The Municipal Cultural Plan provides direction to advance cultural sector development in the City of Brantford. The first plan was adopted in 2005 and has guided the creation of programs and policies over the past eight years. Many of the goals identified in the Municipal Cultural Plan have been achieved and now it is time to respond to the changing needs of the community and provide direction for the future.

The open house is part of a larger public engagement strategy that includes online surveys, outreach at arts and culture events and direct contact with community stakeholders. The revised plan will include overall recommendations, goals and implementation strategies to support growth in Brantford’s cultural sector as well as measurable outcomes to ensure the Municipal Cultural Plan is successful. Using community feedback, a draft version of the plan will be produced and later presented for further input.
