The Study

The City of Brantford is conducting a Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) for improvements to Shellard Lane from Colborne Street West to the City Limit, in the City of Brantford. AMEC Environment & Infrastructure has been retained by the City to complete the study. The need and justification for the improvements was established in the Brantford Transportation Master Plan that was completed in February 2007.

The study will identify and evaluate a variety of reconstruction and widening alternatives to help meet forecasted road user transportation needs generated by build-out of the Southwest Development Area. In addition to potential road capacity improvements, the study will identify and address other engineering aspects of the study area including drainage, storm sewers, pavement condition, utilities, and services.

The Process

The study is being conducted in compliance with the Schedule ‘C’ requirements of the Municipal Engineers Association “Municipal Class Environmental Assessment,” which was approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. A key component of the study is consultation with interested stakeholders (public, landowners and agencies). Two Public Information Centres (PICs) will be held to provide interested parties with an opportunity to review and discuss issues related to the project.
