Sydenham Pearl Brownfield Site

Results of Phase One and Two Environmental Site Assessments and DRAFT Remediation Strategy

July 31, 2012
6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Brantford Polish Hall
154 Pearl Street, Brantford

6 p.m. Presentation (By the Consultants, CH2M HILL)
6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. Question & Answer Session

The Ward Councillors, City of Brantford staff, and members of the project team will be on hand to answer your questions and provide information on the next steps.

The Sydenham Pearl Brownfield site consists of two properties: 17 Sydenham Street and 22 Sydenham Street. Both properties have a history of industrial uses but are presently vacant and are owned by the City.

The City has retained the consulting firm CH2M HILL to complete the required Phase One and Phase Two Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) reports to determine the type and level of soil and groundwater contamination on the properties. Further, the consultants will develop recommendations for a remediation strategy and determine the cost estimates to implement the remediation work.

At the meeting, CH2M HILL staff will share the results of these reports and discuss any feedback you may have. The consultants are aware of the previous redevelopment ideas gathered at the neighbourhood meeting in July 2011 and their objective is to recommend a remediation strategy that will result in the site being cleaned and managed to the highest standard that permits residential and/or parkland uses.
