An accomplished leader, Chief Caskanette honed his management skills throughout his career by furthering his education. He holds a Master Certificate in Municipal Leadership from York University Schulich Executive Education Centre, a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire and Safety Studies from the Justice Institute of British Columbia, a Diploma in Public Administration from the University of Western Ontario, several professional designations including Emergency Management Professional from the Ontario Municipal Management Institute, and is currently pursuing his Master in Laws (LLM) Labour Relations & Employment Law from Osgoode Hall/York University.
As Chief, Shane will lead and manage overall operations of the Brantford Fire Department including fire suppression, staff training, emergency management, fire prevention, public education, mechanical, dispatch/communications, and fire service facilities.
In an announcement today Mayor Friel said, "I know I speak for Council when I say how excited we are to have Chief Caskanette join the City. He is highly regarded in his field and his depth of experience combined with his demonstrated leadership skills will be significant assets to the City."
Chief Caskanette looks forward to taking on this new role saying, "It's an incredible honour to serve the residents of Brantford and the dedicated men and women of the Brantford Fire Department as Fire Chief. My family has close ties to the community as my youngest son played AAA hockey as a 99'er and baseball as a Red Sox, and my oldest son is employed in Brantford so in many respects Brantford already feels like home and it’s important to me to be back closer to family and friends."
Chief Caskanette's appointment is effective January 3, 2017.
