The City of Brantford has been involved in an Official Plan Review process since 2013. An Official Plan includes policies and maps to guide land use planning and development as the City grows and intensifies.

Between 2013 and 2016, much work has been accomplished, including the hosting of visioning sessions, the preparation of technical background papers, and the creation of a new Draft Official Plan.

In 2016, the municipal boundary between Brant County and the City of Brantford was adjusted to add lands to the City of Brantford for future growth. These lands are known as the Boundary Expansion Lands.

The City is now embarking on a process to include the Boundary Expansion Lands within the City’s Official Plan, and to ensure it conforms to the Province of Ontario’s 2017 Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe.

As such, the Draft Official Plan will be revised to incorporate the Boundary Expansion Lands. To do so, the City needs to determine how much of those lands are to be included within the City’s urban settlement area, and determine the land uses within them, as well as the transportation infrastructure, servicing infrastructure, environmental management and urban design guidelines necessary to implement the land uses.
