The main purpose of the sanitary sewer system is to provide the drainage, collection and routing of domestic and industrial wastewaters to the Brantford Water Pollution Control Plant located at 385 Mohawk St.
There are currently 414 km of Sanitary sewers within the City of Brantford.
Rain and snow melt water is collected through catch basins on city streets and parking lots but is not treated at the sewage treatment plant.
The capabilities of the Sewage Treatment Plant have limits and the types of wastewater it can treat are restricted. For specific information on the bylaw limits for sanitary sewer discharge, please refer to the Sewer Use Bylaw, Municipal Code 281 (see Bylaws at the bottom of the Sanitary and Storm Sewers page).
