SCARECROW CONTEST RULES & REGULATIONS:

NEW JUDGING DATE: Saturday October 8th, 2016 at 4:00pm.  Winner will be announced at 5pm on the Bell Stage.  A representative is expected to be present at judging.  Entries will be voted on by the public. All votes will be tallied Friday and Saturday and announced at 5pm.

Location: Harmony Square, Downtown Brantford

Entries:

  • 1 Scarecrow BASE per participant will be provided and delivered by Friday September 30th
  • All entries must be delivered to Harmony Square on Friday October 7th between 10am-3pm
  • Entrants are responsible for bringing and installing their fully assembled scarecrows
  • All entries will receive a 4’X4’ display area
  • Scarecrows must NOT exceed 8’ in height 
  • Only 1 scarecrow per display area
  • BIA members MAY have multiple entries – however only 1 base will be provided 
  • Brantford Parks & Recreation and the Downtown Brantford BIA are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged scarecrows
  • Entries MUST be removed by 5pm on October 8th, 2016.  Bases are the Property of Brantford Parks & Recreation and must be left at Harmony Square.  Any entries left after the removal date will be disposed of.

Design:

  • Scarecrows MAY promote your business in a creative fashion
  • Each scarecrow must be free standing on base provided.  
  • Scarecrows can NOT be driven into the ground
  • Scarecrows can NOT lean up against trees
  • No tiki torches, gas-powered generators or any other flammable objects allowed as props
  • No sharp objects allowed as props ex. Pitch forks
  • Human scarecrows NOT allowed
  • Store bought masks NOT allowed
  • All scarecrows will be provided a name plate by Parks & Recreation and turned over at the base 
  • Scarecrows must be constructed to withstand weather such as wind & rain and be in good taste.  Brantford Parks & Recreation reserves the right to remove any entrant deemed inappropriate
  • No religious or political statements

Winning Scarecrow entry will receive a circulating PLAQUE to display at their workplace!!

PUMPKIN RULES & REGULATIONS

Pumpkins can be decorated in any manner you choose: Carved, painted, dressed up, or anything else you can come up with! Participants must provide their own pumpkin.  The contest is open to individuals, organizations, clubs and businesses.

  • Location: Harmony Square, Downtown Brantford
  • Participants will be provided a large sign with the entry name clearly marked (for judging purposes).
  • All entries must be delivered to Harmony Square on Friday October 7th between 10am-3pm

NEW - Howl'Oween Dog Costume Parade

Join us with your furry friends for a Dog Costume Parade on Friday, October 7, 2016!  Register on-site, parade begins at 5:30pm. Prizes will be awarded at 6:30pm!

Howl-o-Ween Costume Contest Categories

  • Best homemade Costume: Made with love, and made by hand, this is no store-bought creation!
  • Best Dog & Owner Costume Combo: Humans must be in costume, and may have more than one human or more than one dog.
  • Most Creative Costume: This is the "OMG, I would have never thought of that!" category.
  • Funniest Costume: If you split a gut laughing when you see it, you found the winner!
  • Best Large Dog Costume: For dogs over 30lbs, with the best costume
  • Best Small Dog Costume: For dogs under 30lbs, with the best costume
  • Best Movie/TV Character Costume: Bring on Harry Potter and Yoda! Best movie costume wins!
  • Best Superhoero Costume: These dogs have super costumes and super powers!

Contest Rules

  • Winners can only win in 1 category, no repeat winners.
  • All dogs must remain leashed and be with an adult at all times.
  • No puppies under 4 months or without vaccinations.
  • Rabies and vaccinations must be current.
  • Dogs must wear I.D. tags at all times.
  • No dogs in heat.
  • No aggressive dogs.
  • Please pick up after your dog.
  • Costumes must be safe and comfortable for dogs.
  • City employees have the right to ask you and your dog to leave if deemed necessary.

Zombie make-up will be available, courtesy of Halloween Alley, Brantford!  For a canned goods donation, you may choose your zombie feature!  Make-up 4:00pm - 6:00pm, Zombie Walk 6:00pm sharp!

Zombie Code of Conduct

The following are a few rules established to ensure that your zombie walk is as fun as possible for everyone:

  1. Please respect other people’s personal space: no shoving, hitting, pushing, crowding, mauling or attacking other zombie participants, pedestrians or spectators.
  2. Please respect other people’s property, including the property of business owners along the walk route.
  3. Please refrain from littering, urinating, using profanity, or engaging in lewd acts.
  4. This is a weapons-free event. Please refrain from bringing weapons of any sort, real or fake, to this event.
  5. This is meant to be a family-friendly event. Please ensure that your costume is appropriate for spectators and participants of all ages.

The City reserves the right to deny entrance or remove any person who does not abide by these rules, without limiting any other right or remedy the City may otherwise have at law.
