Swim Admission Standard

Safe Swimming Is Important To Us . . .

Effective March 1, 2007
This standard is in response to a recommendation from the Chief Coroner of Ontario

CHILDREN 6 YEARS OF AGE AND UNDER
Children 6 and under must ALWAYS be accompanied in the water by an adult of at least 15 years of age in the pool within an arms reach.

CHILDREN 7 TO 10 YEARS OF AGE
Children 7 to 10 years of age must complete the Facility Swim Standard.

NEW WRISTBAND SYSTEM

Upon arrival at the pool, children 7-10 years of age will be issued a YELLOW wristband at the front desk and will be told about the swim admission -swim across the shallow end of the pool (18m) without touching the bottom of the pool.
If they successfully complete the swim, they will be issued a GREEN wristband by the lifeguard. The GREEN wristband indicates to all other lifeguards that the child has successfully completed the swim admission requirement and is able to swim in any section of the pool. Parents/caregivers with children in the age group are encouraged to swim with their children regardless of the child's swimming ability.
If they do not successfully complete the swim, they will be issued a RED wristband by the lifeguard and asked to remain with their caregiver (15 years of age or older within arms reach) while in the pool.
