Armouries Gore

Armouries GoreLocated across from the Brantford Armouries, developed in 1903 by the Parks Board (Parks & Recreation), this small, triangular, horticultural park is bordered by Brant Avenue, Bridge Street (now closed) and Dalhousie Street.  The Armouries Gore consists of a lawn area enclosed by a knee high privet hedge with displays of annual flowers in decorative ìVictorian Islandsî, no trees.

The 1952 picture shows the I.O.D.E. (Imerial Order Daughters of the Empire) cenotaph which was erected in the 919 to honour those who had served in WW1.  The cenotaph was relocated in 1992 to Tom Thumb Park.

The Gore provides a sense of entry into Brant Avenue Heritage District and the downtown core approaching from the West (although Gore is technically outside the heritage district).
