Florence Buchanan Park

Florence Buchanan Park is located in the north end of Brantford, Ward 4, between Buchanan Cres. and Branlyn Cres. The topography of the park is generally flat. The east portion of the park, where the structure is located, is open grass with a few larger trees and a small naturalized area at the east and south perimeter. The west portion of the park contains a wood lot. An existing asphalt path connects Buchanan Cres. and Branlyn Cres. with an additional path that provides a connection to Copernicus Boulevard to the south.

The new playground will move slightly from where the old equipment was situated. The playground areas are much larger and include a wide range of play opportunities from climbing to sliding to swinging to crawling etc. Each play surface will be fully accessible with many ground-based play components for all abilities. A new swing set with an accessible swing as well as a sand play area is also included in the design. An asphalt path will lead into the park from Branlyn Crescent which will wind around the play areas and meet the existing asphalt path just west of the play area leading to Copernicus Boulevard. A half-court basketball pad will be installed near the west entrance of the park with a grass area for spectating. New benches and trees will be installed throughout the new park area with natural features such as grass berms, log borders and a grass picnic area to enjoy.
