Anti Icing
The Public Works Department will be utilizing an Anti-Icing Program; which consists of the spraying of a liquid mixture (salt and water) called “BRINE”, on heavily traveled roads up to 12 hours in advance of a storm.
- Brine helps keep roads from becoming snow and ice covered during the early stages of a storm.
- Anti-Icing returns road surfaces to normal more efficiently because the Brine mixture of salt and water jumpstarts the melting process.
- Brine sticks to road surfaces so “salt” materials are more efficiently used. If the storm is delayed, salt residue remains on the road ready to begin work when precipitation begins.
- Crews can cover more territory by beginning treatment in advance of a storm. Increased efficiency results in less usage of salt therefore, minimizing environmental concerns.
