Anti Icing

The Public Works Department will be utilizing an Anti-Icing Program; which consists of the spraying of a liquid mixture (salt and water) called “BRINE”, on heavily traveled roads up to 12 hours in advance of a storm.

  1. Brine helps keep roads from becoming snow and ice covered during the early stages of a storm.
  2. Anti-Icing returns road surfaces to normal more efficiently because the Brine mixture of salt and water jumpstarts the melting process.
  3. Brine sticks to road surfaces so “salt” materials are more efficiently used. If the storm is delayed, salt residue remains on the road ready to begin work when precipitation begins.
  4. Crews can cover more territory by beginning treatment in advance of a storm. Increased efficiency results in less usage of salt therefore, minimizing environmental concerns.
