B-Cards:

Picture of the Monthly B-Card

The B-Card is an interactive smart card and is part of our new on-board fare collection system that Brantford Transit launched in December 2007. The B-Card is the same size as a debit or credit card. When a customer boards a bus, he or she simply holds the card over the tag zone located on-the farebox to pay the fare. The tag zone reader recognizes what type of fare or pass is on the card and approves or denies the ride, electronically, in about a second.

Once you buy your first B-Card, you keep using the same card, week after week, month after month.

Value is added to the card by Brantford Transit staff located at the Customer Service kiosk at the downtown terminal (64 Darling Street, phone 519-756-5011). The value that you wish to purchase will be added to your card at that time. Currently, the only site that is able to add value to your B-Card, is at the transit terminal. (Please Note: outlet locations for this service will be added on in the future).

The new B-Card works by “passing” it over the B-Card tag zone area on the new fareboxes, that says “touch here”, in order for the tag zone reader to recognize your card.

Can I still ride Brantford Transit and pay cash?

YES! Passengers will still have the option of paying cash. Although, the new fareboxes accept coins only (except pennies), bills can no longer be accepted.

One-Hour Transfer:

Just present your B-Card to the on-board reader for each bus you board. You don't need a paper transfer, the B-Card handles it all. If you are a B-Card user, your transfer is already on your B-Card. No need to ask for a transfer. The new transfers will now have a one-hour expiry time limit. One transfer per person per fare paid.

What happens if I lose my B-Card?

In the case of a lost or stolen B-Card, you are required to report it as soon as possible to Brantford Transit, by contacting 519-753-3847, and a “stop” will be put on your lost or stolen B-Card account immediately. This will help minimize the loss of rides. You will be responsible for replacing the B-card with a $5.00 replacement fee. Those rides that are on the card at the time of reporting your lost or stolen card will be put onto your new card.
