What is the procedure to close a street temporarily for construction or emergency purposes?
Please contact the Transportation Division of the Engineering Services Department at 519-759-1350. The requester is to submit a Temporary Right-of-Way Occupancy Application – Construction Form which may be obtained from the Engineering Services Department or downloaded from the City’s website. For construction closures, at least 10 working days notice is required. Details with respect to the temporary road closure relating to the proposed date and time period, limits of the road closure and reason for the road closure, etc. need to be provided on the form. As well, the following documentation must be received by the Engineering Services Department before approval can be provided for the temporary road closure: 1. Certificate of Insurance in the minimum amount of $2,000,000 naming the “Corporation of the City of Brantford” as an additional insured. 2. Copy of written notification to residents/businesses abutting the affected road section informing the residents/businesses of the proposed closure. 3. Payment of Permit Fee in the amount of $600 per permit (2017 fee).
How does my company obtain an Oversized Vehicle Permit to operate vehicles on City streets?
Please forward a request to the Engineering Services Department for an Oversized Vehicle Permit either by fax (519-754-0724) or by email to rsmith@brantford.ca. The City will require a Certificate of Insurance with Commercial General Liability coverage in the minimum amount of $2,000,000 per occurrence and naming “The Corporation of the City of Brantford” as an Additional Insured. Once the required documentation has been received, the requesting company will receive a letter from the Engineering Department, which will allow the company to operate oversized vehicles within the boundaries of the City of Brantford. An oversize/overweight vehicle permit must be requested annually. In accordance with the City's Fees & Charges By-law, there is an annual fee of $600 for the permit or a fee of $70 for a single trip permit.
What is the procedure to close a street temporarily for a street party or special event?
The event coordinator is to submit a Temporary Road/Lane/Sidewalk Occupancy Permit Application which may be obtained from the Special Events Fields/Events Booking Clerk, Parks & Recreation, 1 Sherwood Drive or downloaded from the City’s website at http://www.brantford.ca/discover/EventsActivities/Pages/SpecialEventBooking.aspx If the event requires City services or impacts City by-laws or policies, the applicant will be asked to attend a S.E.A.T (Special Event Advisory Team) meeting Road Occupancy Permit Applications must be received at least 3 months’ prior to the temporary road closure. Details with respect to the temporary road closure relating to the proposed date and time period, limits of the road closure and reason for the road closure, etc. need to be provided on the form. The following documentation must be received by the Engineering Services Department before approval can be provided for the temporary road closure: 1. Certificate of Insurance in the minimum amount of $2,000,000 naming the “Corporation of the City of Brantford” as an additional insured (for events with liquor or fireworks, insurance coverage must be $5,000,000 per occurrence). 2. Copy of written notification to residents/businesses abutting the affected road section, as well as emergency services, utilities and other City services informing them of the proposed closure. 3. Fire Route Plan (6.0m wide traffic aisle included) to be approved by the Brantford Fire Department that details the use/layout of the street section to be closed for the event. 4. Copy of an approved Special Events Permit Application from the Brantford Police Service is to be provided for events requiring the removal of on-street parking. 5.
