Financial Assistance (Subsidy)

What is Child Care Subsidy?

Child Care Subsidy is a program that helps families pay for child care costs at licensed programs in the community, so that families can work, attend school or place a child with special or social needs. Families who are eligible will receive either full or partial subsidy.

Funding for subsidized child care comes from both the province and the municipality. Funding is not available for every licenced child care space. Whether or not the City will be able to subsidize your child's space depends upon the availability of subsidy dollars and your eligibility. Requests for subsidized child care are handled on a first come, first serve basis. There is a procedure to get your child's name on the waiting list.

How do I apply?

There are five steps to apply for the Child Care Subsidy. You must complete all five steps before your eligibility is determined.

2. If you have a confirmed starting date for employment or training your child's name will go onto our active waiting list.

3. For a therapeutic referral or special needs, the inquiry will be held until the required two referral letters from professionals have been received in our office.

4. When your choice of space and funding is available, a staff member will contact you to set up an appointment to determine eligibility.
