Affordable Housing Strategy
SHS Consulting Inc. was hired by the City of Brantford to complete an Affordable Housing Strategy for the City, County of Brant and community stake-holders. The overall goal was to provide a set of directions to meet the diverse range of housing needs of residents across the entire housing continuum and ultimately work towards the creation of complete communities. Two key objectives in the development of the strategy were:
- to provide an analysis of the housing needs facing residents of Brant-Brantford; and
- to put forth a set of recommended actions and strategies that are aimed at meeting the identified needs of residents, that maximize resources and create effective partnerships, and that are consistent with current local objectives and policies.
Work that was undertaken throughout 2009 included three key components: a comprehensive data analysis, extensive public consultation, and a review of current legislation and literature. The consultation process engaged 72 stakeholders and a tenant focus group, and included housing provider surveys, phone interviews with various stakeholders, a public consultation, and three meetings with a Steering Committee.
