How many bags/containers can I put out for garbage?
Residents are allowed a 5 bag/item limit for garbage (bundles such as branches are included in the 5 item garbage limit except during Special "Brush Only" collection).
What if I have a problem with garbage collection?
Call BFI at 519-756-4444 or Public Works Commission at 519-759-1350. Garbage must be curbside by 7:00 a.m. the day of your garbage pick-up or after 7:00 p.m. the night before.
How can I dispose of a refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner, etc?
Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, etc. need to be tagged from a licensed refrigerant company, which can be found in the yellow pages. After it is tagged, you can call BFI Canada at 519-759-0070 or online at myBrantford.ca to schedule a bulk pick-up.
What can I put in my blue box?
Glass bottles and jars, metal cans, all plastic bottles and jugs with the numbers 1 through 7 on the bottom as well as milk/juice cartons and boxes can all be recycled. Help the collection contractors by properly sorting your recycling. Cans and jars should be placed loosely in your blue box. Newspapers and boxboard can be flattened and placed inside another blue box.

Call Emterra: 519-770-4711 or Public Works Commission: 519-759-1350. Recyclables should be sorted as per the Recycling Program Brochure and placed at curbside by 7:00 a.m. the day of your garbage pick-up, or after 7:00 p.m. the night before.
Where can I dispose of Household Hazardous Waste?
Household Hazardous Waste such as pharmaceuticals, household cleaners, pool chemicals, propane tanks, paints and paint cleaners, wood preservers, driveway sealers, and adhesives can be disposed of at the Mohawk Street landfill site on specified days. Household Hazardous Waste days in 2013 are April 13, May 11, June 8, July 13, August 10, September 14, October 19 and November 16. The Mohawk Street landfill site is located at 20 Morrison Road. Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Closed: Sundays, Christmas Day & New Years Day.
What should I not put in my blue box?
Please do not include foam plastic packaging (eg. styrofoam), plastic bags, plastic wrap (bubble wrap), and blisterpak (eg. the rigid clear plastic cover on toys and other products.
Where can I get a blue box?
Blue boxes are available to City of Brantford residents only, from Operational Services, free of charge. Operational Services Hours: Monday to Friday - 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Blue Boxes are also available at the Tourism Centre on 399 Wayne Gretzky Parkway, Saturday and Sunday ONLY.
How do I get rid of bulky items?
Residents must call BFI at 519-759-0070 or online at myBrantford.ca to have bulky items collected at curbside on their regular garbage day up to a maximum of twice a year - once between January to June and a second time between July and December. Residents are required to give 7 calendar days notice and place bulky items at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on their scheduled garbage day.
Where can I get a composter?
To obtain a composter throughout the year, visit Operational Services, Earl Avenue location for cash only payment or visit Engineering Services (City Hall) for cash, debit or credit card payment, obtain receipt and go to Operational Services to pick-up composter.

How much does it cost to go to the landfill site?
There is a minimum tipping fee of $5.00 per load weighing 150 kg or less. For all loads weighing over 150 kg, the entire load is charged at the applicable tipping fee rate. The general waste tipping fee is $67.00 per metric tonne.
