Recycling Program

Residents are to note that only City approved Blue Boxes are to be used for the set out of recyclable materials. These Blue Boxes must be between 60L (16 gallon) - 87L (23 gallon) in size. Large wheeled recycling containers are not currently permitted for use by residents.  The City of Brantford offers new or replacement Blue Boxes to residents, as well as the proper disposal of broken or unusable Blue Boxes.

Please note that trucks begin collecting at 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. Separate trucks pick up different materials at different times so it is important to have all your items to the curb by 7 a.m.

Regular recycling collection runs on all statutory holidays except Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Collection will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week following these two statutory holidays.

TIP!!  Since there are so many things that you can recycle make sure you have at least two blue boxes.  Use one for your plastic, metal and glass containers and use the 2nd blue box for paper, junk mail and boxboard.

Help Keep Brantford Beautiful!

You can help reduce litter by preventing your Blue Box materials and garbage cans from blowing around your neighbourhood on windy days.

On Windy Days if possible:

  • Put your waste at the curb by 7 a.m. the morning of your collection day, instead of the night before.
  • If you have more than one blue box stack the boxes and place heavier items such as phone books and magazines on top of loose papers. Fill boxboard boxes with other boxboard material.
  • Flatten and tie large cardboard boxes into bundles no larger than 75 cm (30") X 75 cm (30") X 20 cm (8") and place securely beside or between your blue boxes.
  • Put garbage bags at the curb instead of garbage cans; garbage cans are more likely to blow around.
  • Set out when full but don't overfill blue boxes.
  • To prevent losing your blue box, garbage can or garbage can lid put your address on them so the owner can be easily identified.
