"2 SORT" Blue Box

Please Note: Residents are to note that only City approved Blue Boxes are to be used for the set out of recyclable materials. These Blue Boxes must be between 60L(16 gallon) - 87L (23 gallon) in size. Large wheeled recycling containers are not currently permitted for use by residents.

Participation in the Blue Box Recycling Program is offered to all Brantford residents, including those in apartment buildings. Residents are encouraged to use the "2 SORT" recycling method, where plastic, metal or glass containers are placed in one Blue Box and paper, junk-mail, and boxboard are placed in a second Blue Box. Old corrugated cardboard (OCC) may be placed in or beside the first Blue Box. The City of Brantford offers new or replacement Blue Boxes to residents, as well as the proper disposal of broken or unusable Blue Boxes. NEW "Expanded" Yard Waste Collection

SPRING/SUMMER/FALL YARD WASTE COLLECTION
April 4 to November 25, 2011.

The City of Brantford has expanded the Yard Waste Collection Program to provide pick up throughout the spring, summer and fall!

  1. Spring/Summer Collection (Apr. 4 - September 30): Maximum of 10 bags, beyond the 5 bag weekly garbage limit.
  2. Fall Collection (Oct. 3 - Nov. 25): Maximum of 30 bags, beyond the 5 bag weekly garbage limit.

Grass and hedge clippings, as well as branches that follow regulations are acceptable items for collection. After the holiday season, the Merry Mulch Collection Program allows for residents to properly dispose of their Christmas tree on their regular Waste Collection day. Call It In Bulk Pick-Up

Furniture, appliances and other bulky items cannot be placed for collection with your regular household garbage. Instead, schedule a FREE PICK UP OF YOUR BULK ITEMS. Residents are encouraged to contact local charities for the donation of reusable or gently used items. For a list of bulk items collected and not collected, as well as preparation requirements, click on the "Call It In: Bulky Material Disposal" link listed in the menu.

Residents of the City of Brantford are encouraged to use the Mohawk Street Landfill Site to dispose of any waste that is not accepted in the weekly Solid Waste Collection Program. Household Hazardous Wastes, Electronics & Tires

Household Hazardous Wastes: Propane, Paints, Aerosols

Household Hazardous Wastes (HHW's) are items that pose a health hazard if not disposed of safely. These wastes should not be thrown away with your regular garbage or poured down the drain. Household Hazardous Waste Days provide residents of the City of Brantford with an opportunity to discard HHW's, as well as unwanted electronics and tires. Household Hazardous Waste Days take place at the Mohawk Street Landfill Site. Composter Sale

On May 7th, 2011 the City of Brantford will be holding a one day only Composter Sale to all City of Brantford residents (proof of residency required). Composters will be sold for $20. Composter sale will be held in the Canadian Tire parking lot from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. rain or shine. This sale encourages the reduction of organic waste entering the Mohawk Street Landfill Site. Free Compost!

Beginning Monday, April 25, the City of Brantford will be giving away free compost at the Mohawk Street Landfill Site, while quantities last. Residents of Brantford are encouraged to come and Bag-Your-Own compost, so bring a shovel and a container! Compost will be available between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
