Brantford calls for Snow Buddy volunteers to support neighbours in need of help shovelling snow
BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford, in partnership with the Neighbourhood Alliance of Brantford is seeking Snow Buddy volunteers to help neighbours with clearing snow from sidewalks, driveways and walkways this winter. The Snow Buddy program pairs volunteers with individuals in their neighbourhood who experience challenges completing winter maintenance due to age, disability, illness or other barriers.
“Over 500 Brantford residents have already reached out for support with snow shovelling this year,” says Maegen Rutten, Neighbourhood Program Coordinator. “By volunteering even a small amount of time, residents can make an immediate difference in someone’s day-to-day life during the winter months.”
Snow Buddy volunteers are matched with nearby neighbours in need and are asked to help clear snow after snowfall events. Residents requesting assistance are typically 65 years of age or older or have a disability or medical condition that prohibits them from safely clearing snow. Residents are encouraged to consider volunteering to be a Snow Buddy and help clear a path for a safer and more enjoyable winter season. High school community service hours will apply.
Residents interested in becoming Snow Buddy Volunteers for a few hours each week can apply at www.Brantford.ca/Volunteer. For more information or to help answer questions, please email neighbourhoodassociations@brantford.ca or call 519-759-4150 ext.5070.
