City of Brantford celebrates decades of musical excellence in tribute to Frank and Nancy DiFelice
BRANTFORD, ON: The City of Brantford proudly celebrated the legacy of Frank and Nancy DiFelice last night at a special event held at the Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts, recognizing their decades-long contribution to the city’s cultural and musical life.
As friends, family, elected officials, and community members came together to honour their enduring impact, Frank and Nancy were presented with a commemorative plaque in recognition of their work as founders and producers of the Brantford Downtown Jazz Series and the Brantford International Jazz Festival. These events brought exceptional jazz talent to the city and enriched Brantford’s cultural life for more than 26 years, including 17 years of performances in Harmony Square.
The plaque will be permanently installed in the Local Music Recognition Wall inside the Sanderson Centre to ensure Frank and Nancy’s legacy continues to inspire future generations.
Mayor Kevin Davis praised Frank and Nancy for their indelible contributions saying, “The DiFelices have brought joy to tens of thousands through music, fostered local talent, and drawn international artists to our community. Their impact on Brantford’s cultural and tourism landscape cannot be overstated. On behalf of the City of Brantford, we thank them wholeheartedly.”
The Downtown Jazz Festival, under the DiFelices’ leadership, grew from attracting 8,000 visitors in its early years to drawing crowds of up to 25,000 people over three days, providing a major boost to local tourism and showcasing the city as a hub for live music in Ontario.
“Frank and Nancy DiFelice didn’t just organize concerts; they transformed Brantford’s cultural identity,” said Councillor Richard Carpenter, who brought forward the resolution to pay tribute to Frank and Nancy, unanimously approved by Council in June. “Their events became a stage not only for internationally renowned performers, but also for local talent, helping to nurture our own arts community and inspire a new generation of musicians.”
The recognition event and commemorative plaque reflects Brantford’s ongoing commitment to celebrating the arts as a cornerstone of civic life.
