Art Your Service

The City of Brantford is pleased to announce that they have collaborated with Art Your Service to offer free virtual online programming for older adults to stay connected , have fun and learn new things from the safety of home. Programming includes; music, art, cooking classes, exercises, learning sessions and more! Programs run twice a day, five days a week. A library of all programming will be available to watch at your convenience in case you are unable to attend live. View programs available, visit https://artyourservice.org/.

How to register

Please refer to the following steps to register.

  1. To register, email us. After registration an email will be sent to you with instructions on how to connect to Art Your Service.
  2. Art your service will contact you directly by email to provide you with information on how to get connected.
  3. Once you have sent all the required information to Art Your Service you will be granted full access to a wide variety of virtual programs.

Week of May 17 to 21

Monday, May 17th 
  • 10:30 a.m. Pilates: A pilates workout for people who want to exercise but might need the support of a chair. Gentle moves will help with posture, core strength and flexibility. Light hand weights and resistance bands are used but optional. The instructor is Julia DeSotto.
  • 2:00 p.m. Writing Workshop: Cinquain Poems of Hope: Writing poetry is a great exercise for your brain! Cinquains are five- line poems and are particularity vivid in their imaginary and conveying certain mood or emotion. In this session we will look at some inspirational examples, and try our own! With Jen Tindall.
Tuesday, May 18th
  • 10:30 a.m. Gentle Moves: Explore the pleasure and fun of moving. Each class includes a 45-minute movement experience and time for conversation. The instructor is Miriam Goldberger.
  • 2:00 p.m. Together Wherever We Go! Join Smile Theatre’s multi- award winning performers of theatre, comedy and cabaret for an intimate session of beloved show tunes. With a song in their hearts, a smile on their faces, and slippers on their feet, they’re ready to entertain because after all, The Show Must Go On! With Gabi Epsein and Jeremy Lapalme from Smile Theatre
Wednesday, May 19th
  • 10:30 a.m. Yoga: Guided by Liz Coucean, Seated or standing participants can expect a mix of gentle and strengthening poses, appropriate for those with reduced mobility followed by guided breathing and meditation to calm and relax the nervous system. This class is suitable for all levels of experience. The instructor is Liz Coucean.
  • 2:00 p.m. Painting with Chelsea: Painting with Chelsea: See the forest for the Trees: Get your paints and hiking boots on we’re going to North to the forest! Supplies include; Acrylic paints: (primary colours black and white paints) canvas or card stock and variety of brushes. With Chelsea McArdle
Thursday, May 20th 
  • 10:30 a.m. The Joy of Movement: Our bodies are meant to move. Regular physical activity is great for the health of our muscles, bones, joints and also our brains but sometimes exercise feels like a chore. This group makes movement playfully productive using different movement disciplines like yoga, tai chi, calisthenics and more with a healthy dose of self-awareness but never too much seriousness. The instructor is Devin Johnstone.
  • 2:00p.m. Back to the Drawing Board: Profiles – Veronika guides us through drawing profiles! This is the first class of two; the second part will be watercolour so you’ll want to put your final profile on appropriate paper. Supplies include; Pencil, eraser, marker, paper and watercolour paper. With Veronika Brath
Friday, May 21st 
  • 10:30 a.m. Mildly Spicy Moves: this is a latin-inspired dance party. We mambo, cha cha, salsa and more. You can stay seated or stand. No previous dance experience is required. The instructor is Miriam Goldberger.
  • 4:00 p.m. Art Your Service Social: Start your weekend off right by joining us for our popular weekly trivia quiz and chat plus surprise musical guest. With Clark Allore.

Monday, May 10th

  • 2:00 p.m. Social : Where We Used To Live : We can’t’ go back in time but we can revisit the area and see how it’s changed or stayed the same .Come to the social with an old address of somewhere you used to live or where you grew up, and we will use google maps to locate, chant and reminisce! With Jen Tindall.
Tuesday, May 11th

  • 2:00 p.m. Body Drumming: Drumming is a great workout for your brain! It releases endorphins, and alpha waves which are associated with general feelings of well-being and euphoria. Part movement and part music lesson, this session is sure to enliven all the senses! With Joe Goldberger.

  • 2:00 p.m. Drawing with Chelsea: Life’s a Beach: Grab your sunglasses and sharpen your pencil as Chelsea takes us step by step through drawing a beautiful beach and sunset. Supplies: Pencil /markers or coloured pencils and paper. With Jen Chelsea McArdle

  • 2:00 p.m. Craft & Social: Paper Roses – Come create beautiful roses using a very ordinary medium, coffee filter! After all April showers bring May flowers. Supplies needed: Watercolor paints or markers, scissors, at least 10 coffee filters (makes one large rose). Paper circles will also work! Other supplies if you have but not necessary pipe cleaner, skewer, tape, vase and glue gun. With Chelsea McArdle.
Tuesday, May 4th

  • 2:00 p.m. Social with a Smile: The Smile Theatre Serenaders are throwing a party online and you are invited! There will be singing, chatting and dancing, sure to put a bounce in your step and a smile on your face. We will all spend a fun and relaxed time sharing music and stories together, always with lots of fun and energy, and special guests too.
