Art Your Service

The City of Brantford is pleased to announce that they have collaborated with Art Your Service to offer free virtual online programming for older adults to stay connected , have fun and learn new things from the safety of home. Programming includes; music, art, cooking classes, exercises, learning sessions and more! Programs run twice a day, five days a week. A library of all programming will be available to watch at your convenience in case you are unable to attend live. View programs available, visit https://artyourservice.org/.

How to register

  1. To register, email us. After registration an email will be sent to you with instructions on how to connect to Art Your Service.
  2. Art your service will contact you directly by email to provide you with information on how to get connected.
  3. Once you have sent all the required information to Art Your Service you will be granted full access to a wide variety of virtual programs.

Week of April 19 to April 23

 Monday, April 19th
  • 10:30 a.m. Pilates: A pilates workout for people who want to exercise but might need the support of a chair. Gentle moves will help with posture, core strength and flexibility. Light hand weights and resistance bands are used but optional. The instructor is Julia DeSotto.
  • 2:00 p.m. Tech support Social: Tech master Clark is here to answer all your burning computer questions! He will begin by going over a few Zoom features and then open the floor to other technical difficulties. Please email any other questions beforehand to info@artyourservice.org. The instructor is Clark Allore. 
 Tuesday, April 20th
  • 10:30 a.m. Gentle Moves: Explore the pleasure and fun of moving. Each class includes a 45-minute movement experience and time for conversation. The instructor is Miriam Goldberger.
  • 2:00 p.m. Social with a Smile: The Smile Theatre Serenaders are throwing a party online and you are invited! There will be singing, chatting and dancing, sure to put a bounce in your step and a smile on your face. We will all spend a fun and relaxed time sharing music and stories together, always with lots of fun and energy, and special guests too.

  • 10:30 a.m. Chair Yoga: Participants can expect a mix of gentle and strengthening poses, appropriate for those with reduced mobility followed by guided breathing and meditation to calm and relax the nervous system. This class is suitable for all levels of experience. The instructor is Liz Coucean.
  • 2:00 p.m. Recipe Swap: Tired of cooking the same meals and want to mix it up ? Old or new, bring a favorite recipe, chat about it and we can swap. Bonus: if you take a picture of the recipe or type it up and send it to me we can make a collected book!  With Jen Tindall.

  • 10:30 a.m. The Joy of Movement: Our bodies are meant to move. Regular physical activity is great for the health of our muscles, bones, joints and also our brains but sometimes exercise feels like a chore. This group makes movement playfully productive using different movement disciplines like yoga, tai chi, calisthenics and more with a healthy dose of self-awareness but never too much seriousness. The instructor is Devin Johnstone.
  • Painting with Lies! Boat on the Beach: Let’s go to the beach and paint an idyllic scene of a lone boat looking over the ocean.  Materials needed includes; Acrylic paints (primary colours, black and white) Canvas, variety of brushers, water cup and paper towel. The instructor is Liesl Scheppat.
 Friday, April 23rd
  • 10:30 a.m. Mildly Spicy Moves: this is a latin-inspired dance party. We mambo, cha cha, salsa and more. You can stay seated or stand. No previous dance experience is required. The instructor is Miriam Goldberger.

  • 2:00 p.m. ‘Birds in a Nest’ Paper Collage: Collages are the perfect place to start or hone your artistic talents! A collage can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. Let’s celebrate spring by cutting up old newspapers, flyers and magazines to create a nested masterpiece! Also needed: glue and scissors. The instructor is Jen Tindall

Supplies include: old magazine, coloured paper or newspaper, hard construction paper or cardboard, scissors and glue. The instructor is Chelsea McArdle.

You can cook along with Katrina or watch for later- recipes and grocery lists can be found on the daily emails.
