Digital Inclusion Opportunities

As part of the City's Digital Inclusion initiative, we are pleased to provide FREE ongoing opportunities to teach youth and adults how to use online tools for education, job training, and inclusion in our online community.

Community Workshop Series

Residents of Brantford are welcome to participate in individual digital workshops or an entire series of digital workshops noted below. Workshops will be offered on a monthly basis from August to December 2020. All participants are encouraged to attend the Zoom information sessions to get the most out of their online learning experience. 

Seniors Workshop Series

This workshop series will help seniors learn more about technology and enhance their digital skills. Acquiring this knowledge can generate greater social inclusion and personal well-being.     Learn to use Zoom, a video conferencing app, to stay connected with family, friends and community members
  • Monday, August 10, 2020, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.: Computer Basics
    In this workshop you will learn more about the features of your Windows 10 desktop, start menu, and taskbar.
  • Monday, August 17, 2020, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.: Email
    Learn how to use your email account and contact list to send and receive emails and attachments.
  • Monday, August 24, 2020, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.: Safe Shopping Online
    Learn how to shop online safely through consumer research, personal information protection, and safe payment options.

    Thinking of getting your grade 12 diploma, or participating in a post-secondary or general interest course? Join this introduction to learning through electronic media and the internet (e-learning).
  • Wednesday, August 19, 2020, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.: Employment Track
    Use digital skills to identify your field of interest and understand the labour market research and how to search and apply for jobs.
  • Wednesday, August 26, 2020, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.: Resume and Cover Letter
    Create or update your resume and cover letter using Microsoft Word.

Newcomer Workshop Series

This workshop series offers newcomers and recent immigrants opportunities to improve their digital skills, as a means to develop stronger connections throughout our community.     Learn how to find information using Google and other search engines. This includes Internet security, safe web browsing, and instruction on how to save favourites and bookmarks.
  • Thursday, August 20, 2020, 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.: Food and Nutrition
    Use the internet to research recipes, nutrition labels/information, food guides and search for online flyers and coupons, including the Flipp App.
  • Thursday, August 27, 2020, 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.: Social Networking 101
    Overview of applications used to create and share information and interact socially (social networking) such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter.
