Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Equipment

Household Hazardous Waste Events give you a way to safely discard Household Hazardous Wastes (HHWs), electronics, and tires if you live in the City of Brantford. 

The last HHW event of 2021 took place on Saturday, November 20th.

2022 Events

Dispose of your HHWs at the Mohawk Street Landfill Site from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Household Hazardous Waste Days

Do not throw out HHWs with your regular garbage or pour them down the drain. HHWs can result in environmental damage and create a health hazard if you don’t dispose of them properly.

Accepted items

During one of our Household Hazardous Waste Days you can discard unwanted items, such as:

  • adhesives and polishes
  • aerosols
  • batteries (automotive and household)
  • bug sprays, pesticides
  • driveway sealers
  • household cleaners
  • lawn care products
  • oil filters
  • oils, antifreeze, fuels
    • Motor or cooking oil (Limit of 20 litres per vehicle, per event day)
  • paints, paint cleaners
  • pharmaceuticals
  • poisons
  • pool chemicals
  • propane tanks
    • Pressurized tanks including barbecue tanks are limited to the 20-litre size
  • syringes, needles and sharps (properly contained in a rigid walled container with lid)
  • tires on or off the rim
  • wood preservatives

Electronic equipment

  • Bring your old, used electronic equipment to the landfill for recycling, including:
  • Cameras
  • Computers, monitors and related components
  • DVD players
  • Electronic calculators
  • Fax machines
  • Photocopiers
  • Telephones
  • TV's
  • VCR's

Fluorescent and compact fluorescent tubes

You can bring fluorescent tubes (including compact fluorescent bulbs) in a cardboard box or wrap them in newspaper. Do not tape tubes and/or bulbs together. There is a limit of 10 tubes/bulbs per vehicle, per event day.
Unaccepted items

You can dispose of the following items at the public drop off area at the landfill instead, some fees apply:

  • Air conditioners and dehumidifiers (must be tagged by a licensed refrigerant handler indicating that the unit no longer contains any refrigerant materials)
  • Appliances
  • Electric motors
  • Microwave ovens
  • Power tools
We do not accept industrial, commercial or institutional waste.

Orange Drop Program

The Orange Drop Program allows you to return certain materials to local Municipal HHW Depots, retail sites and collection events across Ontario.
