Street Excavation Program

The City of Brantford manages the restoration of all surfaces within the City right-of-way, including curb and gutter, sidewalk, pavements, topsoil and sod etc. Where restoration is not for City projects, the cost of the restoration is paid for by the project owner.

All work which disturbs the surface in the City right-of-way requires a Street Excavation Permit.

Some privately and publically held utility companies have infrastructure within the City right-of-way which does not belong to the City. These companies are also required to obtain a Street Excavation Permit when they are disturbing surfaces. In addition to a Street Excavation Permit, most projects also require a Road Closure Permit.

Where a Road Closure Permit has been obtained, projects are added to the Road Closures list.
